You are invited to a Lecture about the Dead Sea Scrolls.
What are the Dead Sea Scrolls?
The Dead Sea Scrolls provide a fascinating link to Jesus’ time.
What is the story behind them?
Choose from 2 opportunities to come learn about them.
Thursday, March 27 at the Parish Life Center (JP II Room) 7pm-9pm or
Saturday, March 29 - St Angela Merici Room (a room inside the church building) 10am-12pm
You might ask “Who cares about a bunch of old scrolls?” The scrolls are far more than a passing interest. The fundamental questions for all Christians are, “How do I know that our Holy Bible is both accurate and truthful? How do I know Christ The scrolls, found in the mid 1940’s, put a brilliant spotlight on both the accuracy and the legitimacy of scripture, particularly the Passion and Resurrection.
A team of scientists and religious scholars (many in the field of ancient languages) have been in continuous reconstruction of the fragments found in several desert caves in Qumran.
Catholics with a formal education in ancient languages are finding the ability to offer new possible meanings for some words and some phrases, like Jesus’ Seven Last Words. These insights have only been possible with the aid of the scrolls.
Make plans on coming to hear a far more complete story of the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Essene Community at Qumran.
Remember the words of Saint Jerome. "Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ".
PRESENTER:
Bob Fawcett, a member of the Knights of Columbus, a Lector, ACTS Participant, Bible Study Catechist, and Member of Saint Angela Merici.
